I (Heather) believe strongly in the power of storytelling. I believe that storytelling has the capacity to change the heart and mind of both the storyteller - and the person exposed to the story. I believe that stories can inspire... educate... move people... challenge people... change mind-sets... enlarge dreams... and so much more.
All of my projects and initiatives involve storytelling to some degree or another.
I love hearing and listening to other people’s inspiring stories - and then imagining and creating ways to get those stories “out there” so that others can benefit from hearing them too!
If I hear Vincent’s story... Philbert’s story... Sofi’s story... Lungile’s story... Nyasha’s story... I don’t think: “Aw, that’s nice” - I think: “Wow! This story has opened my eyes and enlightened me! Other people need to hear this! Other people need to see this! How can we share this story with the world?”
As a side note, TED is a great online archive of incredibly inspiring stories from incredibly inspiring people.
Two of my favourites are Chimamanda Adichie’s talk on the Danger of the Single Story and Jessica Jackley’s beautiful talk entitled Poverty, Money --- and Love.
