VENT!
We hear you! We see you!

I believe strongly in the power of The Arts - as a conduit or vehicle - to tell stories, dream dreams and motivate people to action.  It’s important to note that when I say “The Arts”, I’m referring to all forms of creative expression... whether design, photography, music, dance, film, poetry, writing, drama, fine art, sculpture, fashion, illustration, etc.

Many of us have been deeply moved by documentaries, photographs or films.  Others have read heart-warming accounts of stories in books or magazines.  Some have been moved by a magnificent painting or a beautifully choreographed dance routine - and almost all of us have had our hearts stirred by music.

Let us not ridicule these ‘vehicles’ of storytelling, for they have the power to change the world.  Let’s rather give permission and create a platform for these important stories to be told and better yet... let’s invite the ‘invisible’, the disempowered, the diseased, the ignored and the ‘silent poor’ to tell their stories too!  Let’s give VOICE to the voiceless and all the others who have simply kept silent because they knew their voice would never be heard above the din.

Far from being “just” about entertainment and diversion, recent studies have shown that creative approaches and The Arts are fundamental to engaging people in change.

I could talk for days about the massive impact of creative projects around the world.

I could talk about the V-Day Movement (successfully using drama workshops world-wide to raise money and awareness to campaign against violence towards women).

Or Write on Africa... who “make love visible” by means of painting large scale artworks in poor communities across Africa.  Their work is so inspiring...

I could talk about the incredible work of the World Comics Institute in India - who are using comics to teach and train people at grassroots level.

Or even the work of TED Talks winner, JR - who created large-scale participatory arts projects which changed ideas and shifted perceptions...

Or El Sistema... the organisation in Venezuela which teaches music to children from under-privileged backgrounds (the results are beautiful!)

Or even as something as simple as PostSecret - which gave people a place to  vent or purge by sharing a secret on a postcard - and making a creative statement at the same time.

I could talk for days about these creative initiatives and the massive impact they’ve made on our world.  I believe (very strongly) in the vital role that The Arts has to play when it comes to changing and improving our world.  VENT! falls into this category.  We use music, dance, film, drama and visual arts - as an effective tool to educate, empower, uplift and transform.

We are proud (and excited) to be a part of this world-wide creative movement.

the arts...

“The Arts enable. In order to create, you have to THINK, IMAGINE and DO. Creativity is never passive, it’s never just about talking. The fundamental ingredient in our work is activity, engaging people in their heads, their hearts and with their hands”

“I believe arts education in music, theatre, dance and the visual arts is one of the most creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface”

“Art is a nation’s most precious heritage. For it is in our works of art that we reveal to ourselves and others the inner vision which guides us as a nation. And where there is no vision, the people perish”.
(Lyndon Johnson)
